Often hiring managers are not aware of the best questions to ask during job interviews to determine if a candidate is a good fit for the job. To help ensure the right person is hired, candidates need to be asked behavioral questions in a panel format to ensure that they are not simply delivering canned answers.
Here are three questions that candidates should be asked to determine if a person is the right one for the job.
1. What have you found out about our company and the job you are applying for?
You can tell if a person will be a good fit for the job if they are well prepared for the interview. That means they have taken the time to thoroughly research the company and the job itself.
They know about the duties and responsibilities of the job, as well as the skills needed because they have studied the job description and any other information available.. They know about that the company culture and values from doing the research.
2. If the company gets into a difficult situation with a client, would you be willing to deceive a client to help the company get through a rough period?
The sole purpose of this question is to gauge the candidate’s character and integrity. If the candidate says yes or otherwise gives the impression that he or she would be willing to shade the truth, you can immediately eliminate the person from consideration.
The only answer to this question is a resounding no. And after getting a response, you would explain to the candidate that you have no intention of asking them to do this, that the question was purely a test of their honesty.
3. Is there something you can tell us about yourself that’s not in your resume?
This is another question to determine if the candidate will be a good fit for the company. It’s a way to try and get the person to reveal a little bit about their character and personality.
If, for example, the candidate responds with a lot of emphasis on himself or herself, such as I did this or I did that, it would give you a good indication that the person is not really much of a team player.
