We all want more time. We all want to get more done. There are 24 hours in a day, and that is not going to change. What you can change is how you use those hours. Here are a few tips on getting more done.

1. Rising earlier
For many, the day begins when the alarm goes off and they get ready for work, grab a bite to eat and hustle out the door. But the early morning is a great time to get stuff done, stuff that matters to you, what is important. It is a time of day when you have the most energy, when the day is new and brimming with possibility, which puts you in the mood to work as well. There are no distractions to bother you.

All you need to do is get up an hour or two earlier. That means getting to bed earlier as well. It will take a little getting used to, but you can make it a habit, and you will see the difference.

2. Removing distractions
Interruptions can really have a negative influence on our work and how much we get done. To get more done, remove as many distractions as you can. Turn off the electronics, tell people you will be unavailable for a while, let voicemail handle your phone calls, go to a quiet, isolated place. Focus just on what you need to get done

3. Time yourself
Using a clock or a timer, set a certain time period to work before taking a break, usually about an hour. Doing this helps you to focus better. You are more conscious of making good use of your time before the timer goes off and you take your break.

4. Planning and goal setting
This is essential to make the most of your time. Write it down, what you want to get done – your goals – and what you are going to do to reach those goals.

5. Set priorities
What is most important and urgent? Do those things first.

6. Quality of work
If you focus on what is important, that is where you want to spend most of your time. Don’t waste time on things that are not important. Focus on quality of work, not quantity. Stop multitasking, which does not work.

7. Use a whiteboard
On the whiteboard, write down in large letters what your goals are – for the day, the week, the month, for you life. Keep the whiteboard where you can see it.

8. Take a walk
Exercise helps you get more done – it increases your energy, reduces stress, helps you think better.

9. Audiobooks
We all need to become lifelong learners. Audiobooks are a great way to learn. You can listen to them while you drive to make the most of your commute.
