Most people have a morning routine, things that they usually do to get their day off to a good start. But probably fewer have a similar routine for the end of the day. But developing an end of the day routine can help you tie things together, to get a better idea of what you have done and where you need to go.
Here are some ideas for an end of the day routine.
1. Record what you need to do the next day
Write down the three most important things you need to get done the following day. These are the most important and urgent tasks that need to be taken care of. This way, you don’t have to ponder the next day over what you need to work on. You can begin immediately working on what you need to do.
2. Do a little reflecting
The end of the day is a time to step back and think about what you achieved that day and what you still need to do. It is an opportunity to look at the bigger picture, to pull together and put into perspective the issues, ideas, plans, and strategies that you dealt with that day.
You can write down your thoughts about what happened that day. Doing this may give more clarity to what occurred.
3. Choose your clothes for the following day.
This is one less thing you will have to worry about in the morning. Before doing this, however, you should check out the weather forecast.
4. Organize your briefcase.
During the course of the day, you have probably accumulated some extraneous items in your briefcase that you really don’t need. They are just cluttering it up. Take some time to go through your briefcase and clean it out.
5. Take it easy
About a half hour before you go to bed, do something to relax. But it’s best to avoid electronics at this time because they tend to get people stimulated. Something more relaxing might be listening to music or reading.
