A new report by Bullhorn, Inc., a maker of recruiting software, shows that the Northeast region is the most active in using social media networks to recruit. And the Midwest is the least active. The report also showed that while there is a big variety in the industries that use social networks, the top three overall are restaurants, advertising and nonprofits.

The Bullhorn Report looks at national recruitment activity on social media networks and how recruiters use the networks in different areas of the country. The information in the report is based on data from the Bullhorn Reach user network of more than 77,000 recruiters.

The report shows that 21 percent of all job openings are posted to one of the big three social media network: Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. But 21 percent of job openings are not posted on any network. More than half of the jobs, about 55 percent, are posted to at least two of the networks at the same time. About one-fourth of the job openings are posted to just one of the networks.

LinkedIn is the most used network for social recruiting, with almost 80 percent of all job openings placed on the network. Twitter follows in second place, with just a little more than half of job openings posted to the site. Facebook gets only about one-fourth of all the new job postings.

The Northeast is the region sharing the most jobs on LinkedIn, followed by the South, West, and Midwest. On Twitter, the Northeast is again the top job sharing region, this time followed by West, Midwest, and South. Alaska and Hawaii share the most job openings on Facebook, followed by the West, Northeast and South regions.

Among the industries posting jobs on social media networks, restaurants are at the top of the list, followed by advertising and public relations, nonprofits, fashion and apparel industry, healthcare, food service, technology, education, accounting, and communications.

However, on LinkedIn and Twitter, technology and education are used more, ranking around third and fourth.

The top ten states for posting jobs to social networks are Maine, at number one, followed by New Hampshire, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Alabama, Connecticut, Oregon, Ohio, and Rhode Island.
