Some companies are now asking employees to return to the office full- or part-time. For many, this can create a great deal of stress and anxiety. Employees have to again make some big adjustments to adapt to a completely new work environment, along with ongoing concerns about health and safety.

If you are making a transition from home back to the office, here are a few tips to make the change a little easier.

Get into a regular morning routine

Establish a good morning routine that will help you get your day off to a good start. For example, you can lay out your clothes for the next day, plan what you’re going to have for breakfast, and get your coffee maker ready for the following morning.

You should also set aside at least 10 minutes for yourself, to get yourself in the right frame of mind. You could do a little meditating, write in a journal, take a short walk, or mentally review your goals for the day.

Practice positive thinking

Neuroscientists have found that our regular habits and behaviors create neural pathways in the brain. So if we routinely think negative thoughts, this habit actually creates a neural pathway in our brain, making it a behavior that we are even more likely to engage in.

But positive thinking can create neural pathways as well, which then can influence our thinking, so that we tend to have more positive thoughts.

Get enough sleep

Studies have found that it is best to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day. About one hour before your usual bedtime, you should begin to wrap up whatever you are doing. And then about 30 minutes before bedtime, help yourself relax by reading, writing in a journal, taking a bath, or meditating, to get you ready for bed.

Don’t forget to workout

Certainly going into the office will upend your usual routine, but you can’t let that get in the way of regular exercise. You need to establish a new workout routine and put it on your calendar so that you remember to do it.

Plan your meals for the week

Returning to the office, along with the commute, may make meal preparation more difficult. One way to handle the situation is to plan your meals for the week on Sundays and get everything you need beforehand.

Take care of yourself at work

Take things along with you that will make your day a little easier and more enjoyable. For example, you can pack some healthy snacks in the morning, teas, hand lotions, or sneakers for a walk during lunch time.

Think about anything else that might help make your day go a little easier.
