Everyone knows that work can produce a lot of anxiety. There are deadlines, too much work to get done in too little time, demanding bosses, uncooperative coworkers.
Since anxiety is an ever present companion at work, it is a good idea to know things you can do to cope with it, because if you don’t, it will eventually get the better of you. It can ruin your health, both mentally and physically.

Here are a few things you can do to cope

1. Deep breathing.

This really is a much more powerful tool for quelling anxiety than people realize. Deep breathing really has a calming effect, even slowing the heart rate. And it is very simple to do. Just breathe in deeply and slowly through your nose, and let it out through your mouth. Do this about three or four times.
Another thing that helps is doing some stretching while you breathe.

2. Taking a walk.

Any type of exercise really is a good way to relieve stress and anxiety. With lack of movement, the tension can build up in your muscles. Walking can help to release that tension. In addition, with exercise such as walking, your body releases hormones and neurotransmittes that help to lift your mood.

3. Take time to relax

Do things outside of work that help you to relax. There are many things that can do this – exercise, as mentioned, some kind of hobby, socializing, volunteering, just listening to music.
Meditating can also be an effective way to deal with stress. And it’s easy to do. While sitting, simply focus on your breathing, and nothing else. Try to make your mind as blank as you can, only conscious of your breathing. When stray thoughts enter, just push them back out again. Do it for about ten or fifteen minutes.

4.Distract yourself.

You can help to reduce anxiety by shifting focus, as well. Try thinking about something else. It could be anything, really. What you are going to do for the weekend, what you are doing after work, loved ones, your dog, your favorite sports team. If that doesn’t do the trick, wander over to friend in the next cubicle and chat for a little, or call your wife.
